Jesus is not just for campers!
It is easy to think of camp as a place where the sole focus of leaders is to share life and Christ with campers. And while that is undoubtedly true, CRU Educational Camps director Sophie was recently reminded of something just as true: the Holy Spirit is not limited by age. God is at work in every heart- young and old alike.
On a camp she was directing, Sophie let the teachers know that if there were kids on camp who didn’t have a bible and wanted one, CRU would love to gift them a Bible. The school’s staff were fully behind this initiative and enthusiastic about partnering with CRU to help kids access God’s word.
As Sophie continued chatting with the year group advisor, she was deeply encouraged to learn that many of the teachers on camp were Christian themselves and had been faithfully praying for camp in the lead-up. It was clear that God had already been stirring hearts before the campers had even arrived.
Camp started and the team spent their time getting to know campers and running activities. Later in the evening, one of the leaders, Indy, shared her testimony and spoke about the peace and joy she has found knowing God and being loved by Him.
As the campers headed into small group reflection time, something unexpected happened. One of the teachers approached Sophie. The teacher excitedly asked if CRU’s offer of Bibles for the kids could also extend to staff. He explained how one of the staff, who was not a Christian, had asked whether they could have a Bible, because they were curious and wanted to consider Christianity more.
Sophie happily said yes! A Bible was quickly provided, and she was struck by how eager the teacher was to begin reading and discovering more about Jesus.
This was a beautiful reminder for Sophie and the rest of the Summit team, knowing that the Holy Spirit moves in ways we don’t always anticipate. Praise God that He works through us, even when we may not realise it!
This story shared by Sophie is not only a helpful reminder but also a great encouragement. Every person who steps onto camp- whether camper, teacher, visitor or team member- is entering a space where the gospel is not only spoken but lived out. At CRU our mission is clear: to see lives transformed by the love of Jesus. We rejoice when campers come to know Christ, and we rejoice when adults realise they need Him too. Praise God that His Spirit is always at work, according to His will and purpose, no matter our age or stage in life.
